“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” – Mark Twain
Putting everything we are passionate about under one roof, we took the already legendary concept of burgers, beers & sports and added top-quality coffee roasts and teas to our selection.
Drawing on our South African heritage, we returned to Cape Town to be schooled in the art of Rooibos tea production and to dive into the booming local coffee culture. A culture that had only relatively recently reached South African shores, but has already taken on its own distinctive, exciting African vibe.
Pointers has simply become a great place to be. By providing exciting live sport transmissions, quality cold beverages, great coffee roasts, exotic tea creations and good food, we do our utmost to render a genuinely uplifting experience.
We hope to share our journey with you and inspire you, whatever your passion may be.
Yours
Burgi and Greg
The coffees that make the blend that we have chosen as our House Roast come from the Arabicas of Ethiopia, Brazil, Guatemala, and Honduras; while the Robusta is selected in Flores in the Sunda Islands, an archipelago that lies between the Indian and the Pacific Oceans. The very best Robusta coffee in the world is grown there.
The final result is an intense tasting, velvety espresso with a full body. The slight acidity offers the cup of coffee perfect balance. This is an authentic Italian espresso roasted in Treviso. Our House Roast is ideal as an espresso but is also extremely well-suited for drinking as an americano, a cappuccino, a cortado, a latte or a flat white.
90% Arabica from Ethiopia, Brazil, Guatemala, and Honduras
10% Robusta from Flores, an island in Indonesia
Body: 4/5, Fruit: 1/5
Taste profile: The velvety fullness gives way to a pleasant aftertaste with hints of cocoa and bitter fruit. The persistence of this lengthens with notes of milk chocolate and with the fragrance of toasted bread
Yirgacheffe by Süssmund
Popular legend has it that coffee originated from Ethiopia around the time of 850AD. Yirgacheffe, a region in south-western Ethiopia, is reputed to produce the best coffee beans that the country has to offer. The Yirgacheffee espresso roast by Süssmund enhances the typical solid fruity and floral aromas attributed to the region, while seeking to promote the natural sweetness of their medium roasted beans.
100% Ethiopian Heirloom grown at altitudes of between 1900 and 2050 m ASL by the Kerchanabe Coop; washed
Body: 3/5, Fruit: 2/5
Taste profile: Floral notes with an aftertaste of exotic fruits and berries
The rooibos plant is a sensitive shrub that grows only at 450m ASL in the Cederberg Mountains, north of Cape Town. Rooibos tea is the national drink of South Africa.
Unlike other teas, Rooibos has needle leaves and the tea is won from the finely chopped twigs and needles. Rooibos tea has a sweet, nutty flavour that is often compared to hibiscus tea and earthy tones that are similar to yerba mate teas.
Generally, the leaves undergo oxidation as part of the natural reactive process. This produces the distinctive reddish-brown colour of rooibos and enhances the flavour. Unoxidised "green" rooibos is also produced, but this requires a more demanding production process, making it more expensive to produce than traditional rooibos. The green needles carry a malty and slightly grassy flavour, somewhat different, but no less enjoyable, than their red counterpart.
Rooibos does not contain caffeine. This makes it a perfect drink for those sensitive to caffeine and is safe for children to drink.
Rooibos tea offers several potential health benefits and calms and relaxes. The tea is rich in antioxidants and in the long term may boost a healthy heart, reduce blood pressure and reduce the risk of infections.
Rooibos is furthermore the only known natural source of the antioxidant asphalathin and may benefit people with type 2 diabetes, although more research is needed to substantiate this.
At Pointers we offer both the red and green rooibos teas. Both are certified organic.
We also produce our very own tea specialty rooibos lattes and rooibos on iced apple. These drinks are hugely popular in the Cape Town area and can now be enjoyed in Pointers.
